"The devil is in the detail."
Everything is designed. Your computer. Your chair.
That thing next to you. Yep, that too.
But, where some things are designed as form over function, or vise-versa. Others are an equal mix of both. Take this website as an example - I've made it so it looks nice AND gives the reader (that's you!) all the right information.
That's how I like to think when it comes to designing. It needs to look appealing and striking, but has to have all the necessary information at the same time.
Take a poster - if it's a white sheet with lines of text, no-one will see it. But if it's bold and unique - everyone will see it.
I will take your white sheet of text - imagine this as a little caterpillar, well - I will cocoon it with imagination and love and let it grow into a beauti . . . okay this has gone too far now.
All you need to do it send me the text, along with an idea of what you want done. I will then put together a design, send it back to you, and see what you think of it!
As simple as that.
But I don't just do posters - I will make your leaflets, flyers, logos, book covers, CD covers, web graphics, your dreams come true - and pretty much anything else you can think of!
We've all heard the phrase "don't judge a book by it's cover".
This is some of our latest work - either it being jobs or just having fun!
ActivLives asked if I could do a design for their upcoming 'mother-project' to house 5 other projects they had running. They had no ideas regarding the design, but trusted that I could come up with a design to their liking.
After doing 3 different designs, they chose this one!
"We love them! ...they're unique and really stand out...can't wait to see them on the front of a poster!"
Wet Feet Records recently finished a year of 'Live @ The Cottage' - and in turn, have decided to take a break from the gigs.
The posters I design for them on a regular basis are ones that I always take joy in making. So let's hope they start up again soon!
New business 'Art & Soul Ceramics' pottery painting studio needed a logo which reflected what they do in a quirky and stylish way.
I decided what better way than to form the words into the shape of a teapot?!
Since Yellow Hill has been running, it's had a number of clients - some just one-off's - others who are still going to this day.
By far my biggest client is ActivLives - a local charity that works with older people to help them keep fit and active both mentally and physically.
They are in need of new posters on a weekly basis - some of them are just updates of previous ones, others are for one-off events or new promotional material.
As for the events they run, I'm usually asked if I could go along and take some photos - which I absolutely love doing!
Take this one for example, which was their AGM in 2015!
I did the artwork for Fern Teather's debut album 'Hiding in the Dark' - I came up with an idea together - A dark night, clear skies, an old A-tent and a lantern.
That was it - that was the whole idea.
And one night (at 1am) it was crystal clear skies, so we just went for it!
We spent the next 3 hours doing the photo shoot, and then I spent a couple of weeks getting the artwork perfect!
And she loved it!
